Corduroy Lines
February 8th, 2015 was a day to remember.
Goleta was in the midst of a solid series of swells, the likes of which we hadn’t seen for quite a while.
But this day, we were lucky to be right where we were.
Right where we were was at the same break as Bobby Morris.
We were treated to an unusual morning of perfect sets, with one of Goleta’s finest surfers
waiting there to receive them.
We had been surfing down the beach a bit and watching Bobby pull into barrel after barrel,
so we decided to cut our session short and get some photos of the situation.
Bobby had been out for a few hours before we even got there, so he had to be getting tired…
But he must have realized this was a rare morning for a Goleta surfer,
and he wasn’t about to squander such a golden opportunity.
Morris spends months making do with the short rides of Goleta’s wind swells,
so when a day like this rolls in, he’ll surf until he can’t paddle anymore.
Even though the spot he was on can be a little treacherous at times, eventually a couple of guys
that were surfing down the beach had to come get in on the action.
The angle of the swell was hitting the angle of this beach so perfectly,
it was unlike anything we’ve ever photographed in good old Goleta.
One of the guys that paddled up was another Goleta local,Travis Brooks.
He was getting some fun ones down below with his bros earlier…..
…but he couldn’t stand to watch Bobby up there all by himself,
so he had to come keep him company.
And he got some nice ones too.
At one point, Travis got too far inside with this set looming…. and it’s rocky in there.
He made it out, eventually, but we got exhausted just watching him paddle and paddle and paddle……
One of the hazards of perfection.
Meanwhile, Bobby got shacked again…
And then threw his 300th bucket of the day.
The third guy, in the foreground, got some nice ones as well,
and there were plenty of waves to go around.

How often does Goleta get surf like this?
How often do you get it alone or with just a couple of buddies?
How often do we get this in our own backyard, with just a few friends,
and with a photographer on the bluffs recording it?
Not very often. Glad we could be a part of it….
Viva Goleta!
