Opening Weekend
October 2nd, 2008. Dawn.
The hype was on. The first west swell was coming to Goleta.
And like Christmas morning, all the little kiddies were eager to start the day.
And there were waves. Clean and fresh and ready to be ridden.
Tim Bolton was first on it, well before the sun rose over the horizon.

The swell came in at a solid western angle, lighting up most every
local spot. These are later in the day, a little further south.
An evening check at Campus saw the wind pick up, but still some lines
pushing through the mush. And the crowds weren’t too bad!
A beautiful Autumn evening followed.
The waves continued all through the weekend, with wind and without, at most
every spot in town.
The Dos Pueblos Surf Team held a practice contest at Dev Point on Sunday morning,
with their coach Dave Johnson.
And so, the first swell came, right on schedule, and it was good.
And Goleta Surfing didn’t get too many photos of it; why?
Because we were busy surfing! We’ll get more next swell….
