Warm & Wet
The end of summer 2013 really warmed up.
As usual, right when school starts, the fog vanishes and the beach days come.
And although it was calm as could be on Goleta’s beaches,
strong winds way out in the channel pushed something else onto our coastline….
Something a lot of people had been waiting a long time for.
Constantly watching and checking to see if it had come yet…
In August that something finally arrived, thanks to those distant winds,
and we cautiously approached to see if it really could be……and it was….
Surf !
Right here, in little old Goleta.
It wasn’t big, or epic by any means. But it was fun and warm and beautiful.
And long overdue ….and more than welcome.
Cole Herman was more than happy to squeeze into a couple of soft, warm semi tubes.
Carson Pierce showed up with his Goleta summer gear; boardshorts and a soft top.
Some folks were complaing about tar. We didn’t see no tar. Just clean, green water.
Cole was enjoying it.
Somebody’s hiding in there…
Paul Franzen, at his home sweet home.
And this kid, Vinny Leonelli, who surfs damn near everyday….
….and always has a blast doing it.
Then some of the local heavies showed up and they brought their sticks with them.
And they started dropping in on everybody….
Paul Franzen.
Blake Reynolds, seemed to be enjoying it.
The waves were less than perfect,
but we aren’t going to complain about any surf that comes our way.
Especially when it’s warm enough to leave the wetsuit hanging in the garage.
Genelle Ives.
Another day, another regular at Goleta surf spots.
Bobby Morris.
If you’re ever surfing near Bobby, you’ll know it.
Virtually every wave, no matter how small or crappy,
Morris makes it something to look at.
There’s nothing better than a couple of friends “sharing” waves….
Trevor Scoggins.
So next spring, when you’re preparing to put your board in storage,
and dreading the long flat summer ahead, remember these days.
Keep the longboard handy, and make the most of what we get.
Cappy always does.
and it ain’t bad at all.
