Winds of Change

This winter started off pretty exciting.
We got plenty of rain early on and a string of fun but not real big swells kept the surf coming.

And then it stopped. Both the rain and the surf.

Winter became spring and the wildflowers did their thing.
And we all enjoyed the green rolling hills.

And with spring comes wind. So if there was any surf, you had to get on it early…

….but more often than not, there wasn’t any surf anyways.

Until Easter.

Maybe some guys will tell you they saw it coming, but we sure didn’t.
The day before was flat as can be. All of a sudden, we had waves.

Spotty, inconsistent, a little choppy; but surf nonetheless.
And the masses were quick to bail on their family Easter plans and get in the water.
Damn heathens…

The days following, the wind got seriously intense, knocking down trees
and even power in some areas.
But more surf soon followed.

Parker Waugh found some fun ones.

So did Simon Murdoch.

Murdoch has developed a very unique style, super fun to watch. To see more of him Click Here.

An always very serious Mr. Vinny Leonelli got plenty of waves, as usual.

Vinny is killing it in competitive surfing. He’s the Scholastic Surf Series conference
shortboard champion for the third year in a row, the runner up long board champ, and he’s
headed to the state championship next. He’s also Top 4 in WSA going into the WSA state
championship. And he gets great grades in school! Go Vinny!

Vinny shacked. Check out his website, Click Here.

Ian Jenkins found some glassy faces to shred.

Ian gets some serious speed going down the line.

Goleta Homeboy Extraordinaire Trevor Scoggins
made his presence known in the lineup.

Due to the high winds, the water temp was a brisk 52 degrees.
But that didn’t keep young Nick Kushnerov from staying out there for hours on end,
sharing waves with the crew.

Local favorite Carlos Castro caught a few fun ones on a couple different boards.

He was obviously excited about that as he showed the photographer his pet birds!

Don’t have a name for this guy, but he got a lot of great rides.

Ditto for this hombre.

Dennis Rizzo was out for hours, getting long and fast rides all afternoon.

Late in the afternoon, the cold wind was getting to us, and the photographer’s
trigger finger was numb. Just as we turned to leave, Bobby Morris showed up.

And quickly found the deepest pit of the day.

And so we head off into summer. Hopefully some wind swells will come our way….
