Stoke Fest
This is Dave Ziemer We got an email from him the other day saying he was getting a bunch of Goleta
surfers together to celebrate life and this place we live.
Sounded good to us!
Dave said the reason for Stoke Fest was to have a Goleta surf crew reunion.
In the past the crew would only get together at a funeral.
How often do we get together just to celebrate life?!
So we got there pretty early, and watched the locals trickle in…
Dennis Shepard and his lovely wife Jamie.
And the core of the core was there.
Bruce Fowler and Randall Stoker. Two guys that have undeniably left their mark on
the surf culture of Goleta.
They had the mascot all decked out.
The crowd grew as the evening went on.
Kenny Jorgensen and Paul Rubin.
Ken Gruel, Bruce Waugh and his wife Beth (DPHS sweethearts, married for over 25 years!)
And while there were lots of old timers, there were a few of the next
generation in attendance. Local shredder Parker Waugh, ready to write
the next chapter of Goleta surf history.
Surfers without Borders, Aubrey Falk and Loren Luyendek, and Goleta legend Dale Powers.
Soakin’ up the stoke.
Looking over Dave Johnson ‘s shoulder.
Joe Cano rockin the crowd.
This is his music on this page. Hear more at www.joecano.com
One of the all time best surfers in Goleta, Cappy Pettersen, and the
always beautiful Catalina Villa.
Enjoying the event together.
(Nice shirt Cappy…)
Joe Rakowski, (Captain Karma), showed up with some arts and crafts
he made special for the event.
The atmosphere was laid back and casual, and all the guys fell easily into conversations
about what they all love: surfing and Goleta.
Left to right: Bruce Fowler, Denny Aaberg, Goleta Eric, Wayne Rich, Norm Grazianno, Steve
Talley, Dave Johnson.
Wayne Rich , seriously…having fun.
Aubrey, thinking about taking a ride….
Gettin the whole crew together for a group shot was suprisingly easy!
One happy group of Goletians.
Branden Arroyan took some group shots as well, that may end up in
some magazine called the Surfers Journal.
Wayne-O, Tommy Chamberlain and Bruce Venturelli.
Stoker, Dave Johnson, Roland Yarnell and Bruce Venturelli.
Tony Taggert and Steve Talley.
These guys surfed the same breaks we surf today, but things were a lot
different when they were surfing them…
In honor of Stoker, they broke out the Smoker.
Zeimer, Chris Benedict and guitarist Joe Cano Joe performed for the party and everybody was blown away.
Steve Donnell liked the pony….
Roland Yarnell and Bruce Fowler , lifelong amigos.
These guys were born on the same day at St. Francis Hospital, went all through school
together, surfed together, shaped together, and did a bunch more crazy stuff together
that probably shouldn’t be mentioned here….
Paddle out where you’re not welcome and these guys won’t hesitate to let you know,
but tonight they were full of nothing but love.
Mission Accomplished.
The crew got together, memories were shared and the stoke was rekindled.
Looking forward to Stoke Fest 2!
