Weekend Warriors
Mid January, 2010.
So far this winter has been the exact opposite of the last one, pumping.
Swell after swell has kept local surfers busy and in the water.
And amazingly, with all these waves, guys aren’t getting surfed out.
It must be the get it while it’s here mentality. We all remember way to clearly how quickly
the ocean can go flat.
Plus, when you got nice weather AND great waves…..
Everybody’s on it.
There should be a users manual when you buy a surf board, explaining some of the
rules of surfing and surf etiquette. But since there isn’t a manual, a lot has to be
explained on the fly, and sometimes there’s some debate about these rules.
This guy knows the rules and probably would be happy to explain them to you, just not while he’s
on a wave. Surf Country Doug Yartz also knows how to find the funnest waves at Campus.
This little fella thought a SUP was a good call on a pumping crowded day at Campus.
We thought this was like the next big earthquake, a disaster waiting to happen.
To his credit, he eventually caught a smaller wave and rode it to the beach without
killing anyone.
This guy found the slot.
Just cuz they do it like this at Rincon, that doesn’t make it right…does it?
Or are we just old fashioned…
Multiple fouls on this wave; but, as long as everybody’s having fun, whatever.
This guy got a beauty all to himself.
The back lit waves make it tough to identify people, but it sure looks purdy.
Very stylish, young man…
” Hey, didn’t you read your surfboard manual!!”
Uh, I dunno, kind of a nice place to call home, eh?
An occassional left could be found by the patient goofy footer.
Possible fraternity field trip.
You notice how college kids like to surf in groups?
Maybe there should be something in the manual about that too…
These waves had some juice.
Nice rooster tail.
Sneakin through the rocks.
While the rest of the nation freezes…..
This gentleman had rigged a camera up on his kite line to get aerial photographs.
Pretty clever: Ben Franklin would be proud.
He said he’d send me some pictures, but….nothin yet.
Gotta love this one.
Check the smile on the dude’s face watching his buddy hang five.
That’s what it’s all about.
Here’s our buddy Joseph Yee, having fun on his Point Concept board.
Now that’s a cut back! Snap.
Then Kenny Jorgensen showed up.
A true Campus Point veteran, he’s surfed here since he was a pup and
it’s still his favorite spot.
Especially on days like this.
Squint your eyes….. It’s the headless surfer.
Actually, he’s tucking it as far in the tube as he can.
Where not touching this one.
You make a caption, keep it clean…
Bonus style points right here.
We saw sooo many close calls this day.
And a beautiful ending.
‘Til next time!
