Surf Wind and Fire
The beginning of May, 2009, was interesting in Goleta.
We finally got some decent surf that lasted more than a day or two. We got crazy warm weather.
And we also got an early start to our fire season.
As the temps rose, so did the winds. And after a few days of that, some fun waves started
coming in. Later in the week a ground swell filled in and things got even better.
These pics are from a few different nights that week.
David Prichard was rockin it on his short board.
As always, Ryan Nufer caught some great waves and made his way into the barrel.
Haskulls regular Suri Sherman got his share of the fun.
Kevin Long caught lots of fun ones, as well.
DP surf team stand out, Daniel Prichard, was shredding this
afternoon, enjoying the long awaited Haskells Spring surf.
Then there’s this guy.
You can rip his knee completely out, take his one true love away from him, and he’ll
still find a way to have more fun than anybody else out.
Bobby Morris, on Physical Therapy Overdrive.
David Prichard
Ryan Nufer, Roostertail.
Here’s something you won’t see at Sands, a guy pulling out of another guy’s wave!
Haskells brotherhood, what a beautiful thing.
Daniel Prichard
The wind kept blowing, the hills kept burning, and the waves kept coming.
As the week progressed, the wave size got bigger, climaxing with an
epic weekend, (that we missed cuz we got evacuated and split town).
Another DP surf team stand out, Josh Brown, was on fire.
Too bad he never got any surf like this during the contest season!
Water wall.
Local legend, Cappy Pettersen.
You can tell by the Randy Cone board, he’s a local boy.
That’s Trent Pettersen, Cappy’s nephew.
Mr. Dale Powers, after a long hard day at work, blowing off some steam, Haskells style.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch…..
And by the way, at the risk of sounding cliche;
Thank You Fire Fighters.
They were up there risking their lives while we were down here,
loving the good life.
Gracias.
Josh Brown, again.
Ripping a green glass wall to shreds.
So there you go, an intense week of waves, wind and heat.
Wild fires or not, there’s no place like home.
