… and There Were Waves
So the hype was there. We even fell prey, what with the “El Nino” talk and all….
And waves did come. But not quite the monsters we imagined.
After a dawn patrol at some unknown spot, we went to Sands to see the masses, and
there was quite a show to behold.
There’s nothing like the feeling of warm winter sun after a good surf session and a
breakfast burrito.
Makes you wanna curl up and take a nap. We fought the urge, and took some pictures.
This guy has blonde hair…
This guy has green glass….
So you can see, Goleta had some fun waves. But we wanted to see the big 15 foot faces
Wetsand was calling for, so we headed north to Central Cal.
And so, as the sun rose on the central California coast Sunday morning, November
8th, 2009, we were looking for some big suckers.
And they were bigger than Goleta, but still not the beasts the Internet had promised.
But who doesn’t love a solid offshore breeze?
Head high, sliding into the sunrise.
Alleluia!
Somebody tell us this guys name.
He jumped in at 7 AM, and he was still shredding at 4 PM.
As we ventured further north, more waves and less people. And perfect conditions.
Howling offshore. Well overhead.
Unspoiled natural beauty in No Man’s Land.
Meanwhile, back in civilization, this dude’s getting tubed.
And as the day went on, the swell grew.
Oh yeah, and this guy did this all afternoon…..?
And these guys did this all afternoon….
Yes, it was a tube fest.
The fishermen were oblivious to the situation at hand.
And as we decided to head back south, this guy just kept shredding, wave after wave…..
So yeah, they called it. There were waves.
Bring on El Nino….
